'Epic surf for police champs'

Officers from Gisborne dominated the New Zealand Police Association Surf Champs held at Omanu Beach this week.
Scott Pitkethley from Gisborne won the open men’s long board division, Gina Samson from Gisborne won the women’s division and Scott also won the over 40s division.

Tauranga constable Karl Blinkhorne was among the 96 police officers that competed in the New Zealand Police Association Surf Champs.

About 96 officers from around New Zealand competed in the annual surfing competition, but this is the first time the Western Bay has hosted the event.
Rob Cameron from Northland won the over 50s division and Tauranga’s Loyd Buckley was placed second.
Loyd organised the event and says surf conditions were ideal for the championship.
“It was really successful. The surf was quite small for the novice competitors on the first day but as the championship got more competitive the conditions got better. By the final day the surf was epic.” - Sun Media
